Providing more pension for yourself

If you think your income when you retire may not be enough, it is often better to do something about it sooner rather than later. Making smaller, regular payments over a longer period of time may be less painful than trying to boost a small pension just a few years away from retirement. Under the Civil Service schemes, you have a couple of options:

  • You can pay additional voluntary contributions (AVCs)

  • You can increase your years of service in the scheme (buying added years) through your employer
